View of the Chiemsee "the Bavarian Sea"
The Kampenwand is the “flagship” mountain of the Alps in the Chiemgau region of Bavaria. It is not actually the highest, but it is one of the most imposing mountains. An immense vertical wall of limestone rock with three peaks and a 1669m high summit, rises majestically. And that's right where this tour will take you.
To access these points and enjoy the beautiful panorama, you do not require great physical condition, or expert hiking technique. The trails here are so well developed that it allows even inexperienced hikers to discover the fascinating mountain world in all its splendor. Take your time, because the view over the mighty central chain of the Alps and towards the sparkling lake “Chiemsee” with its islands and countless sailboats is too beautiful to rush.
The Kampenwand cable car will take you comfortably and breathlessly up to almost 1500m altitude, there you will find yourself in the middle of the mountains with impressive rock formations and fragrant alpine meadows. On the way you will encounter beautiful fauna and flora, which has wisely adapted to the harsh alpine conditions. Hohe Tauern, Großglockner, Großvenediger, Wilder Kaiser, Loferer Steinberge and the Berchtesgaden Alps are just some of the points that we can enjoy. And since exercise and fresh air will make you hungry, you'll find a rustic hut with a covered terrace, good Bavarian cuisine, and fine regional beer.
Regardless of whether you want to take it easy or active, just for a few hours or for a whole day, the trip to Kampenwand is an unforgettable experience.
Have fun in hiking paradise, Kampenwand! - The landmark of the Chiemgau Alps.

ITINERARY
From Munich we will drive for 1 hour to the town of Aschau. Once there we will take the cable car to reach the starting point of our walk. Our goal today is the “Chiemgau Cross” located on top of the Kampenwand at an altitude of 1669m. The path is suitable for everyone. During the tour we will first walk through the foothills of the Kampenwand, appreciating the impressive geography, fauna and flora. Then we will start a 35 min. hike, taking several breaks through the summit. We will climb a bit, but nothing risky, just fun. On the way back we will have a comforting and well-deserved beer and then start our trip back to Munich.
RECOMMENDATIONS
